Hosanna forevermore! 나 어젯밤에 잘 때 한 꿈을 꾸었네 그 옛날 예루살렘 성에 곁에 섰더니 허다한 아이들이 그 묘한 소리로 주 찬미하는 소리 참 청아하도다 천군과 천사들이 화답함과 같이 예루살렘 예루살렘 그 거룩한 성아 호산나 호산나 호산나 부르자 그 꿈이 다시 변하여 그 길은 고요코 호산나 찬미소리 들리지 않는다. 햇빛은 아주 어둡고 그 광경 참담해 이는 십자가에 달리신 그때의 일이라 이는 십자가에 달리신 그때의 일이라 예루살렘 예루살렘 그 거룩한 성아 호산나 호산나 호산나 부르자 그 꿈이 다시 변하여 이세상 다가고 그 땅을 내가 보니 저 유리바다와 그 후에 환한 영광이 다 창에 비치니 그 성에 들어가는자 참 영광이로다 낮이나 밤이 없으니 그 영광 뿐이라 그 영광 예루살렘성 영원한 곳이라 그 영광 예루살렘성 참 빛난 곳일세 예루살렘 예루살렘 그 거룩한 성아 호산나 노래하자 호산나 부르자 호산나 노래하자 호산나 호산나 아, 목동아(Londonderry Air) 의 작시자인 에드워드 웨더리 (Edward Weatherly) 가 이 작품의 가사를 썼다. 웨더리는 1848 년 영국의 브리스톨 해협 연안의 작은 어촌 포트쉬드(Ports head)에서 태어나 옥스포드의 브레스노즈 대학에서 법률을 공부하고 변호사가 되어 활동한 인물이다. 본업이 법률가이긴 했지만 문학에 뛰어난 자질이 있어서 수 백 편의 시를 발표하는 문필생활도 함께 하였다. 웨더리는 뛰어 난 작곡가이자 가수로 활동하던 마이클 메이브릭(Michael Maybrick, 1844∼1913)과 친교를 맺고 있었는데, 그가 쓴 유일 한 종교시에 메이브릭이 곡을 붙인 것이 바로 이 성가곡이다. 이 곡의 작곡자가 아담스(Adams)로 알려져 있는데 아담스 라는 이름은 메이브릭의 예명(藝名)이다.
