Protest Rock (프로테스트 락)

Protest Rock 프로테스트 락은 가사의 주제적인 문제나 정신적인 자세 또는 이념등과 결부된 개념의 말이다.

프로테스트 락은 1960년대에 월남전 반대, 인종차별 반대, 반핵 등의 사회적인 운동의 일환으로서 개발되었다.

밥 딜런(Bob Dylan), 필 오크스(Phil Ochs),탐 팩스튼(Tom Paxton), 피트 시거(Pete Seeger)등이 선구자이다.

레이버, 스톨러, 그리고 스펙터의 (1961)을 비롯,크리스탈즈 그룹의 히트곡이 되었던 진 피트니(Gene Pitney)의 (1962),

1965년에 1위의 히트곡이 되었던 배리 맥과이어(Barry McGuire)의 ,

그리고 돈 맥클린(Don McLean)의 (1972) 등이 모두 프로테스트 곡들의 예이다.
