Drink to me only with thine eyes
And I will pledge with mine.
Or leave a kiss within the cup
And I'll not ask for wine.
The thirst that from the soul doth rise
Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove's nectar sip,
I would not change for thine.
I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
Not so much hon'ring thee
As giving it a hope that there
It could not withered be;
But thou thereon did'st only breathe,
And sent'st it back to me,
Since when it grows and smells, I swear
Not of itself, but thee.

사모하는 그대를 위해서 라기 보다는
오히려 거기에선 장미가 시들지 않으리란
희망을 가지고.
그러나 그대는 향기만을 맡고
곧 나에게 되돌려 보냈소.
그후로 그들은 자라고, 향기를 풍기었소.
정말이지, 장미의 향기가 아닌 그대의 향기를
1780년 이후에 만들어진 잉글랜드 민요의 제목에 가사는 17세기 (1616년)에 쓰여진 Ben Johnson 시 To Celia 에 기초하고 있습니다
