미국 팝 역사상 가장 저평가된 밴드라고도 하고 그들의 곡과 가사 전부가 멋지고 심오하며

미국의 프로그레시브 그룹을 선도했던 그룹답게 Styx의 연주솜씨 또한 매우 멋지다.


특히 데니스 드 영의 키보드 솜씨와 토미 쇼의 기타 솜씨는 타의 추종을 불허한다.
1977년 7월 7일 스틱스는 그들의 일곱번 째 엘범 "The Grand Illusion" 을 공개했는데

이 앨범에서 싱글 커트된 "Come Sail Away"가 1978년 1월 Top 10에 진입했고
이 싱글히트에 힘입은 앨범은 6위까지 도달하였다.

특히 "The Grand Illusion" 은 스틱스에게 최초로 플래티넘의 영예를 안겨주었으며

이후에도 "Fooling Yourself"와 "Miss America" 와 같은 싱글을 만들어내며 2년여 동안

빌보드앨범 챠트에 머물려 꾸준히 판매고를 올렸다.
